Flowtica AI has recently completed a new funding round worth tens of millions of RMB, with investors including Vertex Ventures, Source Code Capital, 5Y Capital and Qingshuiwan Fund. Its Scribe voice recorder began shipping earlier this year, and the new Verso product adopts a magnetic E Ink display. The company says the first mass production batch is scheduled to ship in December.
Verso is a 78-gram, 6.5mm-thick magnetic E Ink screen that attaches to the back of a phone. During meetings, a single press starts recording, with real-time transcription and real-time summarization, and to-dos are generated automatically when recording ends. In the process, a single tap marks a highlight and a double tap creates a to-do, both viewable in real time on the E Ink screen. Pressing the Ask button lets users ask any question about their own context, or assign tasks directly to the device.
Public device certification records show that the applicant for the Scribe pen case certification is Shenzhen Daochuang Intelligent Innovation Technology Co., Ltd. According to Tianyancha, the company's design patent for an electronic pen case was granted on October 16.
Public information shows that Flowtica AI was founded in 2024 and is headquartered in China. It is an AI-native developer of personal smart hardware, and its Verso is a magnetic E Ink agent device that is 6.5mm thick and weighs only 78g.
Founder Rian graduated from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where he studied under the well-known entrepreneurship mentor Professor Li Zexiang, and is a serial entrepreneur with a cross-disciplinary background in algorithms and hardware.
His entrepreneurial track record reads almost like a list of hardware categories. In 2016 he built Vimble, the world's first handheld smartphone gimbal, which raised more than USD 1 million on Kickstarter and shipped over 300,000 units before being acquired in full by a well-known domestic company. In 2017, as a co-founder, he built a smart cat litter box that used machine learning to solve multi-cat recognition, raising more than USD 1.3 million in overseas crowdfunding. In 2018 he moved into agricultural technology, applying high-precision control algorithms and computer vision to fruit sorting and reaching second place in the industry.
Since 2024, Rian has returned to the consumer space with Flowtica. On the latest Verso, the answer the team offers runs directly counter to the mainstream narrative of the era. At a time when every AI hardware product talks about collecting as much context as possible, he made a decision that investors questioned repeatedly: cutting the Always-on continuous listening capability.
